Dara (Dodie) King was born in Aberdeen, Washington on November 1, 1931 to Darrow and Ann Wilson, and was raised by her paternal grandmother, Dora Wilson. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen in 1949, and married Gordon King on August 4, 1950. They were blessed with four sons and a daughter, Sandra, who died at age five from leukemia. Over their seventy-two years of marriage, Dodie and Gordon lived in Renton, Washington; Enumclaw, Washington; Emmet, Idaho; Boise, Idaho; Yakima, Washington; and, for the past fifty-six years, Portland, Oregon. Dodie served on the St. Thomas More Altar Society, as a teacher for the St. Thomas More Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, as a founding board member and volunteer for Birthright of Oregon (Oregon Right to Life), as a docent at the Portland Art Museum, as a precinct committeewoman for the GOP, and as a volunteer in the St. Vincent Maternity Ward. Dodie loved her family, her friends, her dogs, traveling, fishing, reading, shopping, and spending time at her beach house in Neahkahnie. She had a signature graciousness, a sharp sense of humor, and an impeccable sense of style and taste.

Dodie is survived by her husband, Gordon; her sons, Gordon (Jeanne), Jeff (Molly), Steven, and Robert (Rocio); her grandchildren, Heather (Chris), Rachel (Jason), Andrew, Abigail (Ayo), Patrick, Becca, and Rebeca; her great-grandchildren, Leo, Sam, and Amelia; and special family friend Katherine Binford. A mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at St. Pius X (NW Saltzman Road, Portland), with a reception to follow. Dodie will be buried in Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen, Washington. Please send bequests to Oregon Right to Life and/or Catholic Charities.
