Judith Ann Cherry

Born in Portland, Oregon, her parents were Alma J. Springer and Elmer E. Springer. She attended Jefferson High School and Roosevelt High School. She was married in 1956 to John P. Cherry. They were the first ones married at St. Birgitta Catholic Church and were married for 66 years to one another.
She worked at Martin S. Schmidt Nursery for 37 years as a greens grader, but also did housekeeping for others and worked as a berry boss during the summer at Teufel’s Nursery for the season.
She belonged to the First Catholic Slovak Union of the United States and Canada. She had made Barbie clothes for her daughter, Teresa, for her own dolls, which she still has. She collected paper money and coins. She looked forward to taking trips with John in their RV, going to casinos down the coast. Mama was a very lucky winner. She also liked having birthday poker parties with her kids and grandkids, which everyone loved.
Judith is survived by spouse, John P. Cherry; her children, Teresa M. Prohaska and David Cherry; grandkids, Trina Mutt, Cody M. Prohaska, Shane R. Prohaska, and Devin Cherry; great-grandkids, Arrynn and Nikki Spreadborough; nephew, Dennis Widmer; and nieces, Kay Widmer and Linda Faust. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Elmer Springer; sons, Michael E. Cherry (died at 18) and her other son, John P. Cherry, Jr. (died at 50); brother, Darryl F. Springer; and sister, Justine Widmer.
There will be a mass held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Portland, OR on Tuesday, January 17 at 11 AM, followed by burial at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Portland, OR at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Judith’s family requests donations be sent to the Cancer Society in Portland, Oregon in her memory.
