Celestino “Tino” Edward Ornelas

Tino was born January 5, 1945 in Canon City CO to Ruth and Tino Ornelas. In 1967 he married Joy Brewster Ornelas and enjoyed 46 years with her. Tino was very proud to have served as a Radar Tech in the US Navy during Vietnam from 1962-1966 aboard the USS Hornet. Tino worked very hard and was proud to earn his Bachelor Degree from Marylhurst University in his late 40’s.
Tino worked for Tektronix for 22 years, ending his career there as a Purchasing Manager. He left Tektronix in 1991 and formed his own company, Ornelas Enterprises, Inc. (OEI) OEI is a successful, family owned Electronic Assembly and Manufacturing company. He began to retire several years ago and really enjoyed his life the past couple of years.
Tino was very proud to serve on the Oregon Dept of Veterans Affairs board and was actively involved in all issues for both active and retired military in the state of Oregon. Tino was an avid reader and passed that love of books to his daughter, his pride and joy, by taking her every week to the library starting when she was 3 years old. In the past 3 years, Tino began to create beautiful handmade wood bowls that he enjoyed giving to people. He loved spending time with his grandson Connor Werner and his “adopted” grandson Zach Alloway. He cherished his time with his 2 little buddies and their other friends.
Tino is survived by his wife and soulmate, Joy Brewster Ornelas; Children Nita Ornelas Werner (the love of his life), Scott Ornelas, Karin Madsen and Karol Johnston; son-in-law Chris Werner; Grandchildren Connor Werner, Cole and Hunter Ornelas and Zach Alloway; Sibilings Nita Novak, Mary Ellen Towner, Tomas Ornelas, Larry Rendon, Deanna DeHerrera and Linda Ornelas Mitchell; Brother-in-law Robert Brewster; Sister-in laws Jackie Jones and Nancy Brewster; Nephew Mike Towner and countless other nieces and nephews. He had many, many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth Rendon and Tino Ornelas.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday 11-26-2013 10:30am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton. Immediately following will be a full military honor burial, 12:30pm Willamette Cemetary.
