Thomas Beane Westley
Date Of Birth: 07/20/1940
Date of Death: 03/30/2022

Thomas Beane Westley, who went by Tom, was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2022 at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sons, Michael Scott (daughter-in-law, Beth) and Kevin James, his grandson, Matthew Nolen, and his older brother, William Westley Jr.

He was born July 20, 1940 in his parent’s bungalow along the Maiden Creek in Ontelaunee Township outside Reading, Pennsylvania. Tom was the youngest son of William Clarence Westley and Helen Sue Beane. He graduated from Reading High School in 1958. He served in the Air Force in the 60’s before he began his career as an engineer in the telecommunications industry. Tom worked for AT&T in Baltimore, Maryland for many years and Baltimore is where he met his wife, Barbara. Tom and Barbara raised their family in Maryland and spent several years of their retirement there before moving to Portland, Oregon to live near their son, daughter-in-law, and only grandchild.

Tom loved to play golf and was fortunate to have had more than one hole-in-one during his lifetime. In addition to playing golf and making golf clubs, Tom enjoyed grilling/cooking outdoors, and was an avid collector of HO scale model trains. He enjoyed creating elaborate train gardens and had a two level, 3 train layout up year round in his living room. Tom was fortunate to retire early and was able to travel around the world via cruises with his lovely wife. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandson who referred to Tom as Paga.

Tom is deeply missed, but was welcomed home by his parents and son, Steven Mark, who passed before him.

A celebration of life will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church on May 14th at 11am. Tom will be laid to rest in Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
